  Dr. Marie C. Gray entered the field of Mental Health in 1999 when she re-located to Pennsylvania after years of teaching in the New Jersey Public Schools system during the period of 1983-1999. She has attended Temple University, Drew University and Montclair State College, where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in English and Literature. Similarly, She continued her educational pursuits at Montclair State University and earned a Master of Arts in Teaching with a concentration on Learning Disabilities and Behavioral Disorders and completed additional coursework specific to assessment and identification of learning disabilities towards a Learning Disabilities Teaching Consultant Certification. As a Special Education Teacher, she worked with various degrees of learning disabled and emotionally handicapped students until she re-located to Pennsylvania. She entered the field of Mental Health as a Behavioral Specialist/Mobile Therapist for Provider 50 service organizations, Therapeutic Foster Care Organizations and then as an Outpatient Therapist specializing in Trauma at Catholic Social Services from 2001-2004. During this time, she earned her Ph.D., in Clinical Psychology, in a highly credentialed and accelerated distance learning program through Calsouthern University, graduated Magna Cum Laude, in January 2003. training with certification in Community Crisis Response Team Training, that was sponsored by the National Organization for Victim Assistance and served as the Direct Practice Co-chair and on the Executive Council for the Luzerne County Domestic Violence Task Force on Trauma [SAMSHA Grant]. During this program Dr. Gray worked closely with other community partners and was directly trained by Dr. Sandra Bloom in her Sanctuary Model and her [then] SAGE Model [recently changed to SAFE]  to create a community collaborative approach to improve trauma services from 2001-2007 when the task force disbanded. Her commitment to the ethical and best practice intervention models associated with Trauma have assisted in further growth through a more recent completion of a trauma specific certification program sponsored by Drexel University in addition to the development of the VSI © Victim, Survivor, Integration Model which remains to be a collaborative effort with longtime friend and colleague, Andrea Pabon, LCSW.

  Dr. Gray has been a Professor of Psychology for Touro University Worldwide since 2014 where she developed courses and curriculum in the undergradate and doctoral psychology programs and  MFT Graduate Program. She served as Director of the Doctoral Program in Human and Organizational Psychology for Touro during the time frame of February 2015 - March 2016. Under her leadership Touro experienced the first graduates of this newly developed program. She continues to teach and specialize in Evidence Based Practice in preparation for students to move forward to the Proposal courses and serves on several doctoral dissertation committees as both committee member and chair with a strength in content editing.

  She was a Pro-Rata Assistant Professor of Psychology with Misericordia University from 2004-2014 and developed a graduate level course in Trauma Specific vs Trauma Informed Treatment Models, Practices and Interventions and supervised undergraduate practicum students in the Psychology Program. Further, she taught graduate courses with Temple University's School of Social Work on Integrating DSM 5 with Psychopathology. She has been a guest lecturer for Marywood University Graduate School of Social Work since 2003 as well as the University of Scranton's Community Counseling Program during 2007-2008.

  Dr. Gray and Cornerstone continue to mentor undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students from Misericordia University, Marywood University (School of Social Work and Psychology), University of Scranton, King's College, Wilkes University, Temple University School of Social Work and doctoral students from Fielding Graduate University, Marywood University and California Southern University.

  Dr. Gray has been sought out as a plenary speaker on the topic of trauma as well as has authored numerous peer review publications, expert interviews, panel discussions, news appearances and commentaries specific to critical incidents, trauma, developmental psychology, psychopathology and other aspects associated with her vast array of knowledge and scholarship. Additionally, she continues to provide clinical supervision for community mental health agencies and specialized training using the VSI© Treatment Model in State Hospitals within Pennsylvania, serves as a nationally recognized expert trial witness throughout the United States and offers clinical supervision to potential licensees for the Professional Counselor License within Pennsylvania. As Keynote Speaker for Geisinger Health Systems Department of Psychiatry, Danville Pa at the invitation of Robert Gerstman, MD she hosted “Grand Rounds” on October 13, 2010 with an intensive presentation on “Breaking Survivor Barriers using the VSI © Victim, Survivor, Integration Model for the Treatment of Simple and Complex Traumatic Stress Disorders and Co-Morbid Process Addictions.” She remains to be a respected specialist in treating LGBTQI issues as a founding member of PALGBIC, PRIDE of NEPA, and The Rainbow Alliance. In 2008 Dr. Gray was Plenary Speaker for Family Equality Council [www.familyequality.org] heading a lecture and discussion on Helping Children and Families Thrive while at sea aboard the Norwegian Dawn, Norwegian Cruise Lines, NCL.com for Rfamily Vacations, LLC.

  In May, 2015, Dr. Gray was asked by American Psychotherapy Association to take part in the Evaluation Process to rank difficulty of each question through Angoff Analysis of the BEta Exam for Criteria regarding a highly specialized credential at Diplomate level for a Board Certified PTSD Clinician and has met the criteria and holds this credential as well.

  The evolution of Cornerstone Counseling and Consulting Specialists, LLC from a sole practitioner into a highly specialized group practice arose out of a need to serve a deserving and underserved population within NEPA and NorthCentral PA, consisting of children, adolescents, adults, couples and families. The road has been challenging and rewarding with significant learning along the way. Historically, Dr. Gray’s roots as a musician, songwriter, guitarist, recording artist and photographer assist her in maintaining balance in her own search to maintain wellness and peace.
